DOLLAR TREE EGG ROLL REVIEW
Egg rolls have been one of my favorites whenever I purchase Chinese food. Dollar Tree is also one of my favorite places to shop. You will be amazed at the items you can find including foods at the Dollar Tree. I’m always surprised every time I walk into that store. It is one of my guilty pleasures. I’m not saying that every food in the Dollar Tree food freezer is appetizing, but you will find a few appetizing ones that you can enjoy. This particular day I found frozen egg rolls. I was hesitant at first but you guys know that I had to try them and see for myself. I picked up the three available flavors, chicken, lobster, and shrimp egg roll.
When I opened the package I noticed that it looked exactly like a regular egg roll. It also came with a small pack of duck sauce like the ones that are served in the Chinese restaurant. There are two ways to warm them up since they are pre-cooked, one is the microwave or the oven per the instructions. I try warming up the shrimp egg roll in the microwave and unfortunately it did not make it because I burnt it. I did follow the microwave cooking time but I made a big mistake by placing it on a paper towel instead of a microwavable plate. I purchased another one since I did not get to taste the first one that I previously purchased.
I decided this time I would use the second option to warm up my egg rolls. I placed them in a baking dish and I followed the baking instructions. One thing I noticed while they were baking is that they produce a lot of oil. While my egg rolls were warming up, I placed the packs of duck in a bowl of warm water to defrost. Once they were done, I placed them on a paper towel to drain the excess oil. So now it is time to taste and be real.
The first one I tried was the shrimp egg roll. The taste was very similar to the normal egg roll. I found that it did not have much shrimp in it. But I did see and taste the carrots and cabbage. I can say that I found about 3 - 4 small shrimps.
The second one was the chicken which I never had in the past to compare it, but I do know that I did not care much for it. I also did see and taste the vegetables in this egg roll.
The lobster egg roll I saved for last. I did not see nor tasted any lobster unless it dissolved in the egg roll.but the taste was pleasant and similar to the regular egg roll served in the Chinese restaurants. I did also see and taste the vegetables in this chicken egg roll.
Overall my final thought on these Egg Rolls from the Dollar Tree is that they are tasty and crispy. I love that they have included the duck sauce and it was not bad for the price.
